BC Cancer Laboratories

BC Cancer laboratories provide specialized testing and diagnostic interpretations in hematopathology, histopathology, flow cytometry, molecular genetics, cytogenetics and cytology.

Laboratory services are provided to regional cancer centres throughout BC and to referring hospitals and physicians.

Cervical Cancer Screening Laboratory

The Cervical Cancer Screening Laboratory (CCSL), located at 686 West Broadway, Vancouver, provides gynecological cytology interpretations. Associated with the provincial Cervical Cancer Screening Program, this laboratory performs all of BC’s Pap screening, with cytotechnologists screening approximately 600,000 smears annually. Human papillomavirus (HPV) testing is also available.

This testing provides diagnosis for on-site pathologists who provide interpretations to referring physicians. Pathologists use their specialty expertise to provide confirmatory or enhanced cancer diagnosis and prognosis.

Accreditation

BC Cancer laboratories have been awarded accreditation by the College of American Pathologists (CAP).
